Student/Graduate Achievement

Program Outcomes: Student/Graduate Achievement

“The faculty at SCO are excellent at teaching the background information and clinical concepts needed to become a well-rounded optometrist. The exam weeks were difficult, but helped build my study stamina/endurance and overall benefitted me while studying for and taking boards. The theory lab practicals also helped to prepare me for Part III.” - Class of 2022 Graduate

At Southern College of Optometry, our mission is to lead the profession by educating the best possible healthcare providers, promoting lifelong learning, and fostering a personal commitment to service. In addition to being taught foundational coursework by our distinguished faculty, SCO students have a wealth of opportunities to practice and hone their skills at our clinic facilities. Southern College of Optometry operates The Eye Center—the largest provider of vision care in the entire Mid-South region.

We routinely evaluate achievement of program goals that support our mission. The primary way that SCO evaluates achievement of program goals is through the use of student/graduate success indicators: retention and graduation ratesNational Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) passage rates, and career placement/residency rates.

SCO is pleased to share its goals for student/graduate achievement with potential students as it showcases the success that SCO graduates have experienced, and the progress monitored over the years. We also share these results with our other stakeholders, such as current students, alumni, employers of our graduates, faculty and staff, board members, community partners and members of the general public. The most recent program outcome data can be found at the links below.
