July (and the Memphis heat) has officially arrived, blogosphere!
We were able to enjoy a short reprieve from our studies this July Fourth holiday. The weather and fireworks were just right in the mid-South. Several classmates and I took advantage of the sunny day for some good ol’ fashion blueberry picking. About 15 minutes south of Memphis in Mississippi there is a blueberry plantation that’s absolutely amazing. I picked enough blueberries to last months (actually I keep nibbling on them by the handfuls each day which puts me at about less than a half gallon left!).

Then there’s the National Student Bowl Competition I promised to update you all on in my last blog post. Top students from each optometry school go head-to-head in this all-out duel of optometry smarts. Decked out in all blue this year, SCO students, faculty, friends and fans cheered on our contender, Brandon Hadel ’14. Brandon’s pretty much the ”Billy-the-kid” when it comes to quick recall and being trigger happy on the buzzer. He fought a great fight, and even with a scoring discrepancy he showed great sportsmanship. While it might not have been SCO’s year to win the championship, it still was a good year for our team spirit. There’s nothing like a little student bowl competition to fire up the whole SCO-squad for a night of camaraderie. Check out this nifty link posted on optometrystudents.com that highlights all the student bowl competitors this year:

Speaking of profiles, I was recently featured in my very own OS.com article about serving as SCO AOSA Trustee. Here’s the link…
