The weekend of the Housing Fair is packed with helpful and fun events. To start, the students who arrived Friday were able to attend a lecture with the current 1st year students to get an idea of what class will be like and take a tour of the college. After the day, everyone came together in our recreation center for some fun, and, of course, to have a traditional Memphis BBQ dinner together. The fun really started when the students did a few different ice-breaker activities, and especially “speed dating!” Yes, I said “speed dating!” The students sat at a long table and had a minute to meet and get to know the person sitting across the table from them. After a minute was over, a buzzer sounded and the people on one side of the table moved one chair to the right so they could get to know another person for the next minute. We did this until everyone that attended housing fair had at least met each other for that minute. They seemed to have so much fun with it, and it really seems like they got to know some of the people better! This was just one activity that helped them start finding people they had things in common with and may want to have as roommates. I was able to take a quick photo during this activity, so that is pictured below!
The Saturday of Housing Fair is full of apartment tours and tours of different areas and neighborhoods of Memphis. After getting a lot of good housing info that day, the attendees and their families had the opportunity to go to the Grizzlies Game that night. SCO got tickets all together, and I had the pleasure of going with them! We all had so much fun, and it didn’t hurt that the Grizz came out with a win that night! I got to meet and hang out with many of the entering class and had such a great time. Many of the people I talked to had found roommates that weekend and had decided where they wanted to live. Pictured below are just two of the girls who met that weekend and will be roommates in the fall!
