What a relief. After months of preparation (years really) I’m finally done taking the Applied Science portion of boards. It was definitely a challenging test. I was hoping to feel happy and relieved after the test like I was with the OAT. Instead, I was left with more of a feeling of nervous relief. It was more like, “Hmm. I knew I lot of those questions, but there were a bunch I didn’t know either.” Glad it’s done now. I really enjoyed the support I felt from the school as boards approached. Everyone was really genuine in their support, both before and after the test. I love SCO! My family has a great support too. When I got home, my wife and kids jumped out and surprised me. Yeah Dad! They also made a poster.
Good job, Dad!
I had a great experience in optical last Friday that I wanted to mention. I decided that I wanted to have some visual aids to use when talking about lens options with my patients. I took a few minutes before optical and put some pictures on my iPad and created a slideshow out of it. It worked great! I was able to educate each of my patients on lens options all in under 3 minutes. My patients felt empowered and I felt relieved as it made the whole lens selection process so much easier. One lady was particularly happy with the experience. After we had selected her frame and I had shown her my slide show, her elderly mom and her daughter came into the optical. She told them not to let anyone else help them because I was the best. Ahhh. After I had finished helping all of them, I noticed that the grandmother’s glasses were on the verge of complete collapse. The temples weren’t staying on the frame anymore and one side was gouging her ear. We took her glasses in the back and brought them back out adjusted and with a new temple cover to go over her ear. The mom was so happy that she gave me a big hug. Definitely made me glad to be in optometry.
