I am writing this with my feet snuggled in warm slippers, drinking cocoa. It is great to be home with family, but I am definitely not used to the cold. Winter break has been very productive and rejuvenating. The first few days of break I spent studying for boards. I feel organized and ready to do what I need to to prepare. The National Board Examination Part 1 is March 16 and 17. There are 500 questions covering just about everything we have learned in optometry school thus far. It is daunting to think about, but I have had some great guidance in how to prepare.
I am recovering from a marathon of Christmas parties. I went with my boyfriend's family to Wisconsin Dells and enjoyed indoor water parks and skiing. I celebrated with my family in Iowa and loved sharing in the joy of Christmas with my nieces and nephews.
My sister in law was having some eye pain and redness last week. I looked it over, but of course had her see her local optometrist for a thorough exam. I can't wait until I can be the one doing the exam and writing the prescriptions. It is going to be awesome to have the ability to help family and friends that need it.
I am also using my break to get my calendar organized for the semester and decide what meetings I want to attend this spring. I am hoping to go the the Heart of America Optometry Conference in Kansas City and a contact lens conference in Florida.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you a very Happy New Year!
