Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all have a blessed New Year's Eve and a wonderful New Year's Day tomorrow. I'm still enjoying my break. I'm going to a gathering tonight at a family member's house to bring in the new year, and I'm going to enjoy Mama's good cooking tomorrow. I guess I'll spend my weekend looking over a few notes (A BIG MAYBE!), and enjoying my family and friends before heading back to school.
I hope everyone remembers to be safe tonight and be thankful for a new year! I'll talk to you all in 2010!!
Well the days of break are dwindling away, but it has been a great one. My wife and I were sad to say bye to Jamaica, but happy to see our families. Our flight on Christmas Day was supposed to land in Memphis at 10:30 pm and we weren't going to get to see my family in Jackson, TN until around 1:00 am. However, when we arrived at the airport in Montego Bay my wife saw that there was an earlier direct flight from Jamaica to Memphis that would get us home 6 hours earlier! So after a lot of begging, Delta switched our flight and I was able to surprise my family on Christmas Day. It was awesome. I have been in Knoxville since Sunday just hanging out with friends and family. Tonight I am going over to a friend's house to bring in the new year. I still can't believe we are going to be starting a new decade! Only a few more days until school starts back up, so I guess I have to get ready to start studying again. Hope everyone had a great holiday and a happy new year!
I am writing this with my feet snuggled in warm slippers, drinking cocoa. It is great to be home with family, but I am definitely not used to the cold. Winter break has been very productive and rejuvenating. The first few days of break I spent studying for boards. I feel organized and ready to do what I need to to prepare. The National Board Examination Part 1 is March 16 and 17. There are 500 questions covering just about everything we have learned in optometry school thus far. It is daunting to think about, but I have had some great guidance in how to prepare.
I am recovering from a marathon of Christmas parties. I went with my boyfriend's family to Wisconsin Dells and enjoyed indoor water parks and skiing. I celebrated with my family in Iowa and loved sharing in the joy of Christmas with my nieces and nephews.
My sister in law was having some eye pain and redness last week. I looked it over, but of course had her see her local optometrist for a thorough exam. I can't wait until I can be the one doing the exam and writing the prescriptions. It is going to be awesome to have the ability to help family and friends that need it.
I am also using my break to get my calendar organized for the semester and decide what meetings I want to attend this spring. I am hoping to go the the Heart of America Optometry Conference in Kansas City and a contact lens conference in Florida.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and I wish you a very Happy New Year!
As the end of 2009 approaches, I am looking forward to many things in 2010. First on my mind is passing part 1 of national boards. I have a study plan and am ready to study away when I return to school in a few days. I also start externs in May, so this will be a big change from classes and clinic at SCO. Over the next year, I also plan to go to many optometry conferences. As graduation is approaching, networking is crucial for me in the upcoming year. Along with that, I will need to decide if I want to do a residency. Residencies are becoming more popular. I'm really not sure what I want to do after graduation, so I'm hoping my experience at my extern sites will help me decide where I should start out.
Hope you all have a Happy New Year!
I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday break! I'm definitely enjoying mine. Christmas was good yesterday, especially since my mom cooked a big Christmas meal. It was nice to spend time with my older brothers, something we don't get to do often with me being in school and them working a great deal. Everything was good on Christmas day!
Since I've been home, I've been doing absolutely nothing school related! I've enjoyed catching up on movies and tv shows that I missed while studying for tests after tests. I've been enjoying my mom, my boyfriend, family, and friends. It's been great!
I hope everyone continues to enjoy the holiday break! I know I plan to!
