Gay K. Tokumaru, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Gay K. Tokumaru, O.D. ([email protected]) serves as the Program Coordinator for the residency program. Dr. Tokumaru graduated from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 1988, and subsequently completed a residency in Hospital-Based/Low Vision Optometry at the Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She has served as Chief of the Optometry Section since joining the VA staff in 1989. In addition to serving as President of the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry, she also serves on the Lectures and Workshops Committee for the American Academy of Optometry and the Examination Development Committee for the ACMO (Advanced Competency in Medical Optometry) examination for NBEO. She is currently completing her second term as President of the National Association of VA Optometrists and is a Fellow of the Optometric Retina Society.

Makesha Sink, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Makesha Sink, ([email protected]) O.D. graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in 2001. She completed a one-year primary care residency at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee in 2002, and was an Instructor at Southern College of Optometry prior to joining the staff at the Hampton VAMC in 2003.

Brooke Smith, O.D.

Dr. Smith graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2007. She completed the primary care residency at the Hampton VAMC in 2008, and became a full time staff member in 2009. Dr. Smith is an adjunct faculty instructor at the Southern College of Optometry, The Ohio State University College of Optometry, and the Illinois College of Optometry.
