The Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC) has collaborated with MATA to provide a commute alternative for SCO students, faculty and staff. MMDC piloted The Groove Shuttle, which is a commuter shuttle between Harbor Town and the Memphis Medical District.
The Groove Shuttle began operating and transporting people with a soft launch earlier this week, and the official launch will be the first week of September where MMDC will host a series of events to engage employees and students. The shuttle is free for employees and students with valid identification cards from medical and educational institutions in the Medical District. The shuttle will also be open to the public who pay standard MATA fare prices.
The Groove Shuttle will operate in conjunction with the MMDC Guaranteed Ride Home program, offered through the RideAmigos online app. Guaranteed Ride Home ensures that should an emergency arise, anyone using the Groove Shuttle can get home safely and easily. Users can sign up for the RideAmigos app online to access Lyft carshare credit for up to $8 per trip, to be used at their discretion.
The shuttle will run Monday through Friday during peak commute hours: 6:30 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 6:30 pm. The service will not operate during weekends or on MATA-recognized holidays. It will also run on 15-minute intervals and stop at five locations. Be sure to look for the blue Groove Shuttle signs:
