American Optometric Association President Dr. Ronald L. Hopping received an honorary Doctor of Ocular Science degree from Southern College of Optometry at the college's 2013 commencement ceremony. He's pictured receiving his degree from Dr. Lewis Reich, SCO's Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Hopping also delivered the commencement address to the Class of 2013. In his remarks, he welcomed graduates into the profession of optometry and highlighted the impact they will make on their patients and in their communities as practitioners.
A graduate of the Southern California College of Optometry, Dr. Hopping earned a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas in 1982. He has been honored as an outstanding faculty member by the University of Houston College of Optometry, earned a distinguished service award from Southern California College of Optometry and has received President’s Awards for Outstanding Service from 10 different state optometric association presidents.
His father, Dr. Richard Hopping, is a 1952 SCO graduate who received the same honorary degree 40 years ago during his tenure as president of the AOA.
