Dr. Harris Lectures in Greece

Dr. Paul Harris, SCO Associate Professor, recently returned from a trip to Greece where he lectured at the OEP’s Art & Science of Behavioral Vision Care Course. SCO Observes Flag Day

Southern College of Optometry observed Flag Day on Tuesday, June 14 with an 8 a.m. ceremony at the flag pole on campus. The event marked the perfect way to observe Flag Day and coincided with the retirement and replacement of the American flag on SCO's campus.  Participants included a Student Color Guard and representatives of the Marine Corps League. SCO storm damage report

At 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 13th, severe thunderstorms hit Memphis. Contrary to erroneous media reports, SCO only suffered minor damage to one glass window pane. There were no injuries. Power was knocked out, resulting in closure of the SCO campus for the remainder of the day. Read More

Lant Awarded Scholarship

JJ Lant, '12, has been named the winner of the $1,000 2011 Hoya Vision Care Grant and Scholarship Program for SCO. All of the winning grant papers have been sent to the Hoya ECP Advisory Panel to be scored. The student with the highest cumulative score will receive a $6,000 scholarship to be announced at this month's AOA meeting. As SCO's winner, JJ will have hotel, airfare and other expenses paid to attend the AOA meeting, and he will receive a 16 GB iPad. Congratulations! Read More

SCO Volunteers Aid Special Olympics

A group of 36 SCO students, nine staff doctors and several alumni recently participated in the Special Olympics "Opening Eyes" Vision Screening at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. The group provided vision screenings to 190 athletes. The program, which began 14 years ago at the Special Olympics Tennessee state games, is now a part of Special Olympics International.
