Residency Supervisor

Sylvia Elizabeth Sparrow, OD

Dr. Sparrow received her Bachelor's Degree from Memphis State University in 1990, her Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in 1998, completed the Residency in Hospital-Based Primary Eye Care at the Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 1999, and earned her Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry in November 2010.

Currently, she is an Associate Professor at SCO and is actively involved in clinical education. Dr. Sparrow is also the supervisor of the Residency in Primary Eye Care at SCO. Further, she was the staff optometrist at the Church Health Center, a multidisciplinary clinic that serves the working uninsured, for over 20 years. There, she was a preceptor for SCO's externship program.

Dr. Sparrow has been chosen for numerous teaching awards over the years. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Sparrow serves as the faculty advisor for Student Volunteers in Optometric Service to Humanity (SVOSH) and the SCO Lions Club. She is a member of the West Tennessee Optometric Physicians Society, the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, the American Optometric Association, and Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
