Hello Class of 2024 & Welcome to Orientation!
Due to COVID-19, Orientation is going to look a little different for you compared to previous entering classes. However, the entire college has been working diligently over the past few months to ensure that the Orientation experience for you is still informative, engaging, safe and more than anything, community-building!
Over the next few weeks, you will engage in a three-tiered Orientation experience: Pre-Recorded Sessions, Live Virtual Sessions (Microsoft TEAMS) and In-Person, On-Campus Sessions. View the Orientation Schedule page of this website for more information.
Please note: online does not mean optional.
Every aspect of the Orientation schedule is REQUIRED attendance/viewing for all Class of 2024 students; from videos you can watch at home, to the times you’ll be asked to physically come to campus. Failing to complete or attend anything listed on the schedule will be synonymous with missing Orientation as a whole.
If there are any pressing extenuating circumstances that prevent you from completing or attending anything on the Orientation schedule, please email [email protected] ASAP.
Continue to check your email, this webpage, and the Class of 2024 IRIS page on a regular basis. These will be your one stop shops when looking for updates or instructions. Also, be sure to email us at [email protected] with your new address when you move to Memphis, and update the “Moving to Memphis” section on IRIS—it’s a great way to find out who is living where and when they are moving in. (Click on the “Complex Name” column to sort the list by complex, or click on the “Moving Date” column to see when others will be arriving.)
Thank you all for your flexibility, adaptability and follow-through as we head into your first year with Southern College of Optometry. We are all excited to welcome you to this life-long community and your home for the next four years.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions, or if we can assist in your transition to Memphis.
In the meantime, take care, and we’ll be seeing you all soon!
