Class of 2023,
Your new life and your official entry into optometry school will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 29! Let’s get this show on the road!!
Orientation will finish around 2:30 on Friday afternoon, August 30, and the White Coat Ceremony will begin at 4:30. Classes begin on Tuesday, September 3. The Advisor Dinner will be on September 5 at 6:30 pm, and the Big Sib Pizza Party/ Student Organization Fair is set for September 10 at 6:00 pm. Attendance is mandatory at all events. A couple of student organizations will have some social events during the first week or two of school, and you’ll find out more about them at Orientation.
Included on this site are several items for your review – a tentative Orientation schedule, detailed tuition and fees for the fall, and brief welcomes from most of our student organizations, just to name a few. Your class schedule is also included, but lab group assignments will not be issued for a couple of weeks.
Dress for orientation is casual - shorts are acceptable. You will have your ID picture taken on Thursday, and you will have the same ID throughout your enrollment, so wear something you want everyone to see every day for four years! Keep in mind that Friday is “Show Your Colors Day,” when you should wear a t-shirt or golf shirt from your alma mater. Represent! Scholarship photos are on Friday—and that is only for those receiving an SCO scholarship—not a contract seat. The White Coat Ceremony is on Friday as well, so you may want to bring a change of clothes to campus and store them in your locker. If you live Downtown or Midtown, you may have enough time to run and home and change before the lineup.
Continue to check the Class of 2023 IRIS page on a regular basis, and be sure to email us at [email protected] with your new address when you move to Memphis. Also, don’t forget to update the “Moving to Memphis” section on IRIS—it’s a great way to find out who is living where and when they are moving in. (Click on the “Complex Name” column to sort the list by complex or click on the “Moving Date” column to see when others will be arriving.)
As always, please do not hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions or if we can assist in your transition to Memphis.
Looking forward to seeing you again...very soon!
