Hello again! It seems like I started this semester days ago, and here it is a week and a half till it's over! I know many of you may have been a little upset when you learned that you would be required to take a summer semester your first year but don't fret! It's actually not bad at all!
We have two labs two mornings a week and two hours of lecture every afternoon. It gives you enough time to study but be able to enjoy the wonderful sun as well. Many of our classmates get together all the time for sand volleyball and frisbee golf, and it's an everyday event to see SCO students studying by the pool.
We're currently taking a refraction lab and a slit lamp lab so they're actually kinda fun! In the refraction lab we get to use all the skills we learned over our first year and put them into action. Everyone in the class puts on different glasses with crazy prescriptions and it's our job to figure out how to fix them. Dr. Newman even got so creative as to have a disease lab where they put finger nail polish and other things on the glasses to simulate patients with diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. Slit lamp lab is even better. It just makes you feel like a real doctor when you are looking inside the eye with such a powerful (and expensive!) instrument. Everyday I learn more and it's exciting to know I have a year under my belt!
So really, don't worry about your upcoming summer semester. You get to learn a lot and have a ton of fun with your classmates as well!
