My name is Devin Duval and I just finished up my last class at Brigham Young University – Provo, UT last week. I will be graduating with a BS in Exercise Science with a minor in Business Management. I’ve been married for two years and have a 1 year-old daughter.
I love optometry and have had plenty of personal experience including contacts, surgeries, and a stunning pair of bifocals. I decided to become an eye doctor after I got to live in Thailand for a few years. I remember one man who couldn’t leave his house in Bangkok because his cataracts had made it impossible for him to see. He couldn’t pay for the surgery and he was on a government waiting list so long that he was doomed to live out his remaining years in darkness. That saddened me and troubled me. What could I do as a 19 year old high school graduate? Nothing. Nothing but spend time reading to him each week. My future at SCO is going to change that. I still don’t want to be the one wielding the scalpel, but I will be helping to restore sight to people.
Why did I choose SCO? I chose SCO because of the quality of education I’m going to get and because of the people. My wife and daughter flew out to my interview with me and everyone treated us all so well. My wife commented that everyone had turned a potentially difficult trip into a great experience. I agreed and so we chose to go to the school that we felt truly valued us. I’m excited for what lies ahead!
