Well time is seriously flying by. I look forward every week for my clinical experiences in The Eye Center. These last two weeks, one of my clinical assignments has been in the vision therapy suite. I did not know much about vision therapy before taking the class and lab last semester. But now I really get to put what I have learned to good use. Ultimately the purpose of vision therapy is to help the eyes work together better. There is so much to learn in this area of optometry. It has really been quite an experience working there. We see many children but we also get to see stroke patients and traumatic brain injury patients as well. It makes me feel happy knowing that this program really helps people improve their lives. I too have really benefited from this program.
Also this week we had a glaucoma exam and contact lens lab practical. I have really been enjoying glaucoma class. It is so amazing that they can create an entire course just from glaucoma. It is definitely helping me especially when I get to see glaucoma patients in the Eye Center.
I have also had a couple of rotations through the optical here at the Eye Center. It is amazing that we get to help our patients choose and fit glasses. For all those people who really have a sense of fashion this could be your forte. I like when patients ask me what looks good and what type of glasses would best fit their lifestyle. Patients place a lot of trust in us and they should be able to feel comfortable and confident in the decisions we help them make. It truly is a great experience.
Well that's it for now, but stay tuned for more later.
