This month sure has gone by quickly!! To recap, here is what happened. Early this month I had the opportunity to attend the Arizona Optometric Association Conference out in Sedona, AZ. It was a great experience. I did however have to miss some classes and some of clinic- but it was really worth it. We, as students, are encouraged to go to these kinds of conferences so that we can start networking and seeing how the scope of optometry is practiced. We even have days allotted that allow us to go to these conferences.
Also we had an event called Optifest a couple of weeks ago. It is a great opportunity to meet some drug reps, glasses/sunglasses vendors, and optometric eye care vendors. It really was a fun time. Plus we get to buy glasses and sunglasses at really good prices! This is going to be my last Optifest here because next year I will be on my externship.
We also have our first exam of the semester coming up. It is an interesting class that talks about optometry, law, and ethics all in one class. It sure is an eye opening class that keeps us entertained. We learn about things that pertain to optometry but I never thought we would formally learn about.
Also this week we have convocation and homecoming. It is a great day of celebration that acknowledges the 1st years in a white coat ceremony. Then the following day we have games and great food. There will be lots of great games and entertainment including a challenging climbing wall, a bouncy house, and of course, a gladiator style game where you try and knock the other person off of a platform. Fun for the whole family!
Once again Congratulations 1st years!! I hope to see you there!
