Happy Snow Day! Memphis is expecting 5+ inches of snow this afternoon, so we were given the day off. I've had more snow days this year in Memphis than I ever had at the University of Michigan. I'm not complaining, I love the snow. Fortunately, it gives me time to catch up on school work and blogging.
So much has been going on at SCO. At the end of January we had the annual Eye Ball at the Memphis Zoo. It was a nice break and great chance to see fellow classmates all dressed up and enjoying themselves. Last week we were given our locations for the SVOSH trip. I will be heading to México City and Acapulco with classmates the second week of May, and I'm very excited. I'm almost finished with my 60 SVOSH hours too. I was fortunate to receive 500+ glasses from a Lion's Club in Cedar Springs Michigan, which definitely helped boost my hours. I also attended and sold tickets to a River Kings Hockey Game to support the SVOSH and Lion's clubs at the end of the month.
This week we have AOSA Trustee-Elect elections happening in the first year class. For any incoming student, the AOSA website is a definite must-see (www.theaosa.org). I didn't know practically anything about the AOA or AOSA and was asked about it when I interviewed at SCO. The Trustee Elect will serve for two years and will help organize events here at SCO for the students (State Day, OptiFest, World Sight Day and more) and represents SCO students nationally as well.
There are so many opportunities at SCO, in Memphis and the optometry community, and I feel very fortunate that SCO makes a conscious effort to share all this information with the students. Just make sure you have a planner to keep track!
