I officially started 3rd year in May to begin my summer semester! Not only did I have classes and labs, but I also started my clinical rotations with my first patient on the first day of the semester. I was very nervous, but after a while I got into the groove of things and performed a successful exam. My staff doctors were GREAT about helping me with patient care and good decision making in treating patients. It was all I thought it would be and more! Seeing patients in the clinic has been the best part of my summer, and I'm excited about seeing more patients and continuing to learn during the upcoming semester!
Although I was here in Memphis the entire summer, I was able to attend the National Optometric Association National Convention in San Diego, CA. The NOA is an organization geared towards advancing the visual health of the minority population and recruiting more minorities into the optometric profession. We have a student chapter, the National Optometric Student Association, here at SCO of which I am the current Treasurer. It was a great convention, and I really enjoyed being in the city of San Diego. The weather was beautiful and a welcome change from the 100 degree weather here in Memphis. I'm looking forward to attending next year's convention in Canada.
Our summer semester ended last Friday, and we have a 1 week break before the start of Fall semester. I stayed in Memphis for the break and as an ambassador, I've been helping welcome the Class of 2015 to campus during their orientation this week. It's nice to see the incoming students excited about being here, and I wish them all a great first year!!
I'll keep you guys and gals updated as I begin the fall term!! Be blessed!!
