So I finally made it here to my next extern site here in sunny Arizona! My wife and kids flew down a few weeks ago to find us an apartment while I stayed behind to get the house ready to move. My dad flew into town last week to help me move our things across the country. I rented a 26 foot moving truck and flat bed that would tow our van too. We made the long drive over a weekend and got unpacked. I flew back to Memphis the next day to finish out my last week in clinic. A friend was nice enough to let me stay at his house for the week. Then the Saturday after my last day of clinic I started the long haul drive (again) to Phoenix in my car.
I sure had a wonderful experience as a 4th year at The Eye Center. I had some great staff doctors and learned a lot. It was hard to say good bye to my fellow classmates and suitemates but I’ll keep in contact with them and see them again at capstone and graduation. Capstone is a 2-week course that takes place around graduation at SCO that is for all 4th years. It will be the last time we are all together as a class before going our separate ways.
I start my new rotation on Monday and I am very excited. It is a cataract and surgical center. It will be challenging but exciting at the same time. This week we have been getting unpacked in our new apartment and getting a feel of the town. It was sure hot when we left Memphis and it was really hot here too in Phoenix. But it is a dry heat with no humidity (thank goodness). But it has been over 110 degrees all week…
Well that’s it for now, but I’ll get back to you in a couple of weeks letting you know how my rotation is going,
