Hello blogosphere--
I think I'm finally back into the swing of things around here! While we haven't really hit exam season yet this semester (the first one was today...eek!), there was plenty of fun had in January to last a while.
Earlier this month SCO hosted State Day where I was able to learn more about optometry from key optometrists across the U.S. and from my home state, Kentucky. Not only was I able to network during State Day, but I was also able to gain a greater insight into the scope of practice among the different states. State Day helped me recognize the important role optometrists have-especially starting early as students-to band together and strengthen the future of our profession.
Twice this month I was able to go to Memphis Grizzlies games with my classmates to watch the hometown team take on the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs. Since the Grizzlies made it to the play-offs last spring, there's been a lot of hype about the team this year... and after watching the team play, the Grizzlies definitely didn't disappoint!

BTW...Happy Chinese New Year! I got to celebrate the year of the Dragon (which I am) alongside several of my classmates by chowing done on some classic family-style Chinese cuisine. There's nothing like food to bring people of different cultures together to celebrate the promises of a new year.
Also this month was SCO's famous semi-formal dance, Eye Ball. The venue was amazing, and absolutely beautiful inside. I posted a picture down below that my fellow classmate, Alison Bozung, took but you really had to be there to get the full experience. Props to SGA for organizing the event and fundraising over $670 for LeaderDog at Eyeball. You can't beat good dancing, good music, and great memories with friends like my first Eye Ball. Everyone looked quite dapper in their dresses and ties to boot!

So with January gone, and my first exams beginning this week, I know it's back to hard work and less play. But in a few short weeks, spring break will be here and with it comes SECO 2012...but that's for another blog post.
Carpe Diem,
Amy
