Chris Wroten, OD '02, of the Bond-Wroten Eye Clinics, has been named Louisiana's 2011 Young Optometrist of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes an eye doctor in Louisiana who is within 10 years of graduation, who has made significant contributions to the eye health and visual welfare of the citizens of Louisiana, and who has furthered the goals of the Optometry Association of Louisiana (OAL), which represents approximately 400 optometrists across the state.
Dr. Wroten grew up in Central, before attending Louisiana State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. After working several years in Baton Rouge, he enrolled at Southern College of Optometry (SCO) in Memphis, Tennessee, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2002. He then completed a residency in Hospital-Based Primary Eyecare at the Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
In the summer of 2005, Dr. Wroten returned home to Louisiana to join what is now the Bond-Wroten Eye Clinics, as a partner with Hunter Bond, OD. He continues to provide primary eyecare to patients of all ages, and serves as Chief Operating Officer of the Clinics, with offices in Denham Springs, Hammond, and Amite.
Dr. Wroten has served two terms as President of the OAL, in addition to holding numerous other offices at the state and local levels, and has participated in clinical research, authored clinical case reports, lectured as a continuing education speaker, and presented educational posters and workshops at national eyecare conferences. He has also been appointed to the position of Adjunct Professor on the faculties of Southern College of Optometry and the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Optometry.
Dr. Wroten is heavily involved in the community, serving as President of the Board of Directors for Child Advocacy Services, on the Board of the Louisiana Emergency Response Network, volunteering with the Louisiana LIONS Eye Foundation, and serving as a volunteer coach for several local athletic teams. He is a devoted husband to his wife, Sarah Wroten, OD '03, who is also on staff at The Bond-Wroten Eye Clinics, and is a proud father to two children, Emily and Ben.
