Robert A. Koetting, OD '47, among the first three recipients of SCO's Lifetime Achievement Award, died August 7, 2011 in Bedford, Texas. He was the founder of The Koetting Associates group and a well-known pioneer in the field of contact lenses, as well as a noted author and lecturer.
In 1996, Dr. Koetting joined Jack Runninger, OD '47, and William D. Sullins, Sr., OD '39, as the first recipients of SCO's Lifetime Achievement Awards, the highest SCO honor bestowed upon graduates who have made lasting contributions to the profession.
He was also a recipient of the American Optometric Association's highest recognition, the Distinguished Service Award, as well as the Eminent Service Award from the American Academy of Optometry.
Survivors include three children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his granddaughter, Cecilia Koetting, is a member of SCO's Class of 2012.
A private burial was set to be held in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. SCO sends its condolences to the Koetting family.
