SCO fosters a personal commitment to service as part of our mission. Doing everything we can to help safeguard our patients’ eyesight is a natural fit for an optometry college as we encourage the value of service with our students, graduates, and employees.
The college gives back to our community through programs that provide patients with quality eye and vision health care as we simultaneously teach the next generation of eye doctors. Each year, SCO provides uncompensated services to 5,100 patients in need.
Our Community Outreach Program reaches local schools, communities, health fairs and partnerships with other organizations. SCO’s volunteers travel to Nashville each year to assist in the Special Olympics and to rural Appalachia to provide Remote Area Medical (RAM) care. Student organizations such as SVOSH and FCO also take patient care abroad, including mission trips to Central and South America through partnerships with the Lions Club and other organizations.
These are just some of the many ways that SCO demonstrates its commitment to service. To learn more about SCO’s impact and how you can support SCO’s effort, we encourage you to visit our separate Community Engagement and Outreach site.
