The Career Counseling Initiative is designed to assist individual students develop personal practice goals and begin the necessary steps in planning their futures.
This program, beginning the first year of enrollment, was established to reinforce that the four-year optometry curriculum is truly a building block to start a career, and that it is never too soon to begin that process. Students are encouraged to participate in the clinical observation program, which is offered to supplement their classroom and laboratory learning.
Twelve Memphis area practices offer students the opportunity to shadow patient care and spend time within the practice to learn more about private practice models and institutional/referral center practices. Additionally, career counseling provides information about ways the college assist students with their post-graduation plans.
