Navy Promotes Sprague

Emily Sprague, OD '04, was recently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy. Administering her oath was Rear Admiral Michael H. Mittelman, USN , the first optometrist to earn the rank of rear admiral while on active duty.  Admiral Mittelman received SCO's Doctor of Ocular Science degree earlier this year. Read More

In Memory of Rep. Jim Morrison, OD '67

Kansas State Representative Jim Morrison, OD '67, died Wednesday, November 24th in Denver after an illness. Rep. Morrison represented his Kansas state district since 1992 and was just re-elected on November 2. Even with serving as a legislator, Rep. Morrison continued to see patients at his optometry practice on the weekend. Read more about his career in this story . Read More

2002 Graduate Honored

Nimesh Patel, OD '02, was recently honored as the recipient of the Optometric Glaucoma Society's Ezell Fellowship during the American Academy of Optometry meeting in San Francisco. Dr. Patel is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Houston. Read More

In Memory of Milton York, OD '62

The Southern College of Optometry community was saddened to learn of the recent passing of  former faculty member Milton A. York, Jr., OD '62. Dr. York died November 2, 2010. Dr. York served on SCO's faculty in the 1970s before going into private practice in the Memphis area. In addition to his optometry degree from SCO, Dr. York earned a master's degree from the University of California in Berkeley. Reed Named MOA's OD of the Year

Southern College of Optometry Board of Trustees member Steven T. Reed, OD '95 , has been named Mississippi’s “Optometrist of the Year,” by the Mississippi Optometric Association (MOA) to recognize significant contributions to the profession of optometry and the general public.  Dr. Reed received the James P.
