Salem VAMC Area Description

The Salem VA Medical Center is located in the Roanoke-Salem metropolitan area which has a population of about 250,000, situated in the Roanoke Valley between the Allegheny & Blue Ridge Mountains. The area has a very affordable cost of living and access to a variety of urban and outdoor recreational activities. The Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian Trail both pass through the area. Washington, D.C. is about 4 hours away, and the Atlantic shore is about a 6-hour drive.
