Low Vision Residency Supervisor

Shilpa J. Register, O.D., M.S., F.A.A.O.
Southern College of Optometry

Dr. Shilpa Register graduated from UAB School of Optometry in Birmingham, AL where she received her Doctorate of Optometry and Master of Science in vision science. She received her board certification in 2002 through the American Academy of Optometry. She began her teaching career at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. She and her family have been in Memphis since 2006. She is currently an assistant professor at the Southern College of Optometry and serves as the Chief of Low Vision Rehabilitation Service and Low Vision Residency Supervisor. Her interests include low vision and adult primary care.

Her service activities include the Editorial Board of the American Optometric Association, consultant for the Accreditation Council of Optometric Education, Education Chair for the Primary Care Section of the American Academy of Optometry, and Education Committee Member on the Board of Foundation for Fighting Blindness. She teaches 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students in clinic and in the classroom. She is a member of the American Academy of Optometry, the American Optometric Association, and the Tennessee Optometric Association.
