Located in
the mountains of upper east Tennessee, the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center
(Mountain Home) is a federal enclave containing 207 acres inside
Johnson City, TN. Mountain Home is a
general medical and surgical facility providing primary, secondary, and tertiary
care that also provides an array of services including nursing home care,
domiciliary care, and acute psychiatry. It is affiliated with the Colleges of
Medicine,
Nursing,
Public and Allied Health, and
Pharmacy of the adjacent
East Tennessee State University (ETSU).
The Eye
Clinic is currently located on the second floor of Building 8, across the street
from the main hospital and Primary Care clinics. The clinic includes 8 exam
lanes, 2 tech pre-test rooms, rooms for visual field testing, laser, ocular
photography, ultrasound, optic nerve analysis, and an optical dispensary. A
planned expansion in 2007 will soon double our clinic space. Our staff consists
of 4 full time optometrists, 1 part time optometrist, 4 part time
ophthalmologists, 3 ophthalmic technicians, 2 clerks, and 2 opticians.

Johnson
City (population 58,000) is part of the
Tri-Cities area (including Kingsport and Bristol). It is close to the
Smoky Mountains, about an hour east of Knoxville and an hour north of
Asheville, NC. With easy access to a variety of amenities, an affordable
cost of living, and its scenic location, it was designated an All-America City
