First-year Southern College of Optometry Students

Awarded Scholarships

 

            MEMPHIS, Tennessee (November 12, 2007) – A record 36 Southern College of Optometry (SCO) first-year students recently received scholarships for their academic achievement and professional promise.

            Thanks to the generosity of SCO alumni, friends of the college and ophthalmic industry donors, students received awards and scholarships totaling $93,000, another record for a first-year class.

            Following is a complete list of recipients, all of whom are members of the Class of 2011:

Board of Trustees Endowed Scholarship ($3,000 yearly) – Kyle Dohrman, Millstadt, Illinois; Jason Hair, Jerome, Idaho; Jimmy Murphy, Shreveport, Louisiana; Sarah Sweeney, St. Marys, West Virginia

 

Dr. L. Wayne Brown Memorial Endowed Scholarship ($1,000 yearly) – Andrea Giardina, Alpharetta, Georgia

Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2007, Southern College of Optometry was established in Memphis, Tennessee in 1932. SCO is an independent, not-for-profit institution of higher education with a mission to educate men and women in the art and science of optometry.
