After the maximum in Stafford loans are awarded, graduate students have access to the Graduate PLUS loan for amounts up to the cost of education minus other financial aid.

• This loan requires a credit evaluation that is less stringent than a private loan
• Students in an in-school status at least half-time will automatically receive an in-school deferment
• There is a 2.5% origination fee
• Interest is fixed. The current interest rate is 7.9%
• Payments begin 30-60 days after enrollment ceases
