Southern College of Optometry Commencement

SCO said farewell to the Class of 2009 when the class graduated on Friday, May 1. The ceremony was held at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church across the street from the SCO campus. The Class of 2009 gathered on the church steps immediately after the ceremony for a class photo.

George Foster, OD, recently retired Dean of the Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry, received the Doctor of Ocular Science (DOS) degree during the ceremony. Dr. Foster also delivered the commencement address. Dr. Foster served 11 years as Dean of NSUCO and spent 29 years in private practice in Oklahoma. He served on the Oklahoma State Board of Examiners in Optometry and the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education. The AOA named him Optometrist of the Year in 1989, and Optometric Management magazine named him one of the Top Ten ODs of the Decade in 1999.
